Wait for appointment SMS before going to vaccination site

26 May 2021

The Western Cape Department of Health encourages residents to wait for their appointment SMS (date and place) before going to a vaccination site. We kindly ask for this cooperation in following the scheduling because we want to ensure an efficient, COVID-19-safe environment at the sites by avoiding long queues and crowds. We also want to ensure that our senior citizens experience a good service at these sites.

At this stage, in line with the above, we have asked our local teams managing sites to stick to this sequencing approach across the province, allowing for some on-site flexibility due to operational circumstances. These include practical issues at vaccination sites, where we must accommodate a small, limited number of walk-ins.

We urge the public to help us with this request, so that we avoid congestion and the disappointment of you travelling to a site that won’t have a vaccine for you at this stage.

We are also continuously working with the National Government to improve the registration and scheduling system, so that this can be as well-run as possible.

Registering to receive the vaccine
We encourage all people over 60 years to register for their vaccine. We ask that caregivers and family members of persons older than 60 years help their loved ones to register on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS). Remember you can register at no cost by using the USSD service: dial *134*832# from your phone to start the registration process. OR send the word “REGISTER” to 0600 123 456 on WhatsApp OR visit http://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za. You can also access this link on our website, www.westerncape.gov.za.
