Hanover Park Community Healthcare Centre Hosts Second Annual Walk for Life

16 April 2012

Hanover Park Community Healthcare Centre (CHC), in association with the Allied Healthcare Practitioners, hosted a health walk event for people living with chronic pain and chronic diseases of lifestyle on Tuesday, 17 April 2012. The event was hosted for members of the Hanover Park allied health therapeutic groups as well as other indemnified patients attending Hanover Park CHC.

Western Cape Minister of Health, Theuns Botha, said: "It is great that our facilities are offering these opportunities in communities to keep fit and healthy. It is in line with our government's strategic objective of creating wellness. Healthier people will in the long-term lead to a healthier society where we are preventing disease as opposed to only treating disease. In this way, we can be better together."

The 5 km health walk started from Hanover Park CHC to Lansdowne Bridge and ended off at the Hanover Park swimming pools. The purpose of the event was to create awareness about chronic conditions and the positive lifestyle changes that the community can make.

Goals:

  • To continue an annual health walk tradition for multiple groups at Hanover Park CHC.
  • To promote healthy lifestyles of people living with chronic pain and chronic diseases of lifestyle in the community and ultimately improve ambulatory care and de-hospitalised care services at Hanover Park CHC.
  • To empower the community and reinforce its own healthcare responsibilities.
