EMS Alert: Currently Searching for Missing Ambulance and EMS Practitioner in Kogmanskloof River

6 August 2012

The Western Cape Government Health's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is currently searching for an EMS practitioner and ambulance that went missing in the Kogmanskloof River in Montagu.

At 05:30 this morning, an EMS practitioner traveling towards Ashton (driving out of Montagu) radioed the EMS Communications Centre in Worcester to alert them that the ambulance she was driving, left the Kogmanskloof bridge (above the river) and landed in fast-flowing and murky water. A team of 14 EMS and rescue practitioners were dispatched to the scene and have since been searching for the EMS practitioner and ambulance, currently not visible to EMS staff along the river bank. The AMS/Rescue helicopter from Oudshoorn arrived at the location and the crew is currently searching for the EMS practitioner.

An update will follow shortly.
