Tygerberg Hospital awarded their Nursing Staff in clinical excellence

Tygerberg Hospital hosted the 27th Hartman Ceremony Awards to recognize the excellent services rendered by the Nursing staff during the year. The ceremony for awarding Nurses for excellence in clinical Nursing is named after Miss M. Hartman, the first Chief Matron of Tygerberg Hospital. After her retirement, an annual award presentation was established to commemorate her immense contribution to professional nursing services.

“The Western Cape Government commends Nursing Staff across the province for their hard work and dedication in providing quality healthcare to patients at all facilities. A special word of congratulations to the nominees in this year Hartman Awards at Tygerberg hospital. I am delighted that you are honored for all your hard work and excellent service. This speaks volumes of your passion, commitment and dedication as health professionals” says Minister Mbombo.


Nursing staff of the hospital play a determining role in:
1.    Providing excellent quality nursing care at tertiary level
2.    The management of the hospital
3.    The clinical accompaniment of Nursing, Medical, Supplementary and Professional students
4.    The development of Clinical Nursing in specialized areas
5.    Promoting the goals of the Nursing profession as a whole

Candidates were selected according to strict clinical criteria and three winners will be announced from each Nursing Module, i.e. a Professional Nurse, an Enrolled Nurse and an Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary.
