Over 60 Nurses Graduate from Worcester Hospital Nursing School

22 November 2013

The nurse’s lamp, which is lit at every graduation ceremony, is a symbol of those who keep vigil over the sick and the philosophy of the nursing profession that those who nurse should be a light unto others.

This nurse’s lamp will be lit once again at the annual graduation of the Worcester Hospital Nursing School on the evening of 14 November 2013 when 62 nurses will be awarded certificates and badges at the Worcester-East Church Hall, Worcester.

  • Nineteen nurses completed a year’s training which allows them to register as an auxiliary nurse with the South African Nursing Council (Regulation 2176).
  • Thirty-two nurses completed two year’s training which allows them to register as an enrolled nurse with the South African Nursing Council (Regulation 2175).
  • Eleven nurses completed the Bridging course which allows them to register as a general nurse with the South African Nursing Council (Regulation 683).

Recognition: which includes the highest academic mark, highest practical mark, top student (academic and practical), professional development and to a student who showed determination under difficult circumstances, is given to various students from each group and awards are given in the following categories: auxiliary nurses, enrolled nurses and bridging students.

The Western Cape Minister of Health, Theuns Botha,  says: “The foundation of care in nursing in our health facilities across the Western Cape, is built on the work of our auxiliary and enrolled nurses. They have the strongest relationship of care with the patient and play a vital role in the multi-disciplinary team for the advocacy of patient care.”

The department congratulates these students who have come from areas which include the West Coast, Winelands and Boland/Overberg regions, who have sacrificed to complete their training. Several in various categories have passed with distinctions and honours.
