Family Health Days on Offer Throughout the Province

8 May 2013

Western Cape Government Health and the organisation Rotary International will, as part of a national initiative, host three day Family Health Jamborees at over 30 venues around the province.

The Family Health initiative forms part of Western Cape Government Health’s goal of creating an environment not only of healthy people, but also of people who seek holistic wellness through active prevention of illness. The Family Days will create the opportunity for families to access preventative health services at venues close to their homes.

  • BMI and dietary management advice
  • Adherence and compliance advice
  • Polio and measles immunisations
This will form part of the current campaign which is offering booster immunisation for all children under the age of five years.
  • Weight height and sight evaluation
  • HIV counselling and testing
  • Men’s health
MMC (male medical circumcision) counselling and booking at closest venue.
Signs and symptoms of prostate cancer.
    Condom distribution
  • TB screening and referral
  • Women’s health
    Breast risk assessment and referral
    Instruction on self-breast exam
    Family planning information and distribution
  • Youth
  • Being condom wise: Birth control options and choosing the best method for yourself
  • Many venues are offering other services such oral health exams and eye tests.

The Family Health Days will take place on 9, 10 and 11 May at clinics and community halls around the province.

Western Cape Minister of Health, Mr Theuns Botha, who will visit one of the venues in the Eden District states: “I whole-heartedly support this initiative, and wish to thank Rotary International and their many partners, who by default are now partners in health in the Western Cape in assisting us in our efforts to improve the wellness of all our people.  I wish to encourage people to take along the whole family and spend a little while at the Health Day venue closest to you. Prevention of illness remains the most cost effective manner in which to help you live an active and meaningful life.”
