Free Online Courses for 1000 Western Cape Businesses

20 September 2012

Media Statement by Alan Winde, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism

As part of the 110% Green initiative, the Western Cape Government and Nedbank on 20 September announced free online courses for 1 000 Western Cape SMMEs.

110% Green is an official initiative of the Western Cape Government and a catalyst to build a critical mass of activity that puts the Western Cape well on the road towards becoming Africa’s Green Economic Hub. 110% Green aims to motivate and mobilise the people of the Western Cape to commit, act and impact in ways that are good for the environment.

As one of the 110% Green Flagship companies and as part of their commitment, Nedbank offered to fund 1 000 free online courses for Western Cape SMMEs.

The courses aim to empower companies to minimise their impact on the environment by greening their businesses and, by doing so, cut input costs and identify risks as they relate to climate change and opportunities as they relate to the green economy.  The course has six modules and includes extensive case studies. In addition, it assists the participant with the compilation of sustainability strategy and business case for their business.

Western Cape Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Finance, Alan Winde, said: “I encourage all Western Cape businesses to register for the courses on www.greeningyourbusiness.co.za. In order to succeed, grow and ultimately employ more people, it is crucial for all businesses to stay ahead of the curve by innovating. The Green Your Business course is such an innovative, and free, offer to Western Cape businesses. We can make our province greener, together.”
