Minister Winde Welcomes Launch of Direct Air France Flight to Cape Town

2 November 2011

Western Cape Tourism Minister, Alan Winde, welcomes the announcement of thrice weekly direct flights between Cape Town and Paris, France. Air France will host an inaugural ceremony at Cape Town International Airport tonight, and Minister Winde will attend to see off the first flight to Charles de Gaulle Airport, which is a major European travel hub.

Air France is the 17th airline to fly direct into Cape Town, raising the average number of international flights into the destination to 12 per day.

International air lift is a critical factor for the growth of our tourism industry. Increased direct flights open further opportunities for business and leisure tourism, and stimulate competition between airlines which results in lower fares.

Cape Town has become a favourite destination for travellers around the world, scooping several international awards this year. Air France's commitment reiterates this confidence in our tourism industry.

On the back of these positive events and the hard work we've put in to market the destination in our traditional and new markets, Minister Winde is looking forward to a good summer season.
