Lessons on Good Financial Governance

8 December 2015

Minister Ivan Meyer and the Director of Local Government Budget Office attended a winter school on Good Financial Governance in Germany between 7 and 11 December.

In the light of important international events such as the G7 Summit, the UN Financing for Development Conference and the post-2015 development agenda, 2015 will be a pivotal year for development cooperation.

But this year promises also to be hugely significant for the international debate on Good Financial Governance (GFG) issues, as it raises the question on how public finance can successfully support sustainable development goals.

German Development Cooperation follows a holistic approach. GFG is explicitly anchored in Good Governance principles such as transparency, accountability, and state’s efficiency. The comprehensive approach considers aspects of the political economy and inter-linkages with technical PFM-reform issues. The training course aims to familiarize participants with and strengthen their understanding of the German approach.

In addition it provides updated knowledge on state-of-the-art public finance tools as well as a deeper insight into the current academic debate on GFG issues.
