Minister Winde Officially Opens New Cosmetics Plant

Alan Winde, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, will on Thursday, 5 December 2013, officially open the new R150 million premises of one of the country's leading cosmetic export firms.

Minister Winde will open the new premises for locally-based cosmetic powerhouse, Environ. The new factory is located in Parow and will see a major boost in production and employment.

"In 2012, the Western Cape exported products worth R64 billion, representing significant economic value for our region. Environ currently exports to over 60 countries playing a key role in putting the Western Cape on the international market for our innovative, high quality products. I'm especially pleased as this company has grown their operations they have also been able to increase their staff by 15%," said Minister Winde.

Speaking at the official opening, Minister Winde added that Environ planned to use cutting-edge technology at the new premises.

"There will be a focus on increased scientific research to generate and develop world leading  products. The only way our firms will be competitive in the world market is if we embrace innovation. There is major opportunity in our economy for research and development. I’m confident this field will be an important job creation driver," said Minister Winde.
