Christmas comes early for special needs housing beneficiary

12 December 2019

The Deputy Minister of Human Settlements Water and Sanitation Pamela Tshwete accompanied by Western Cape MEC for Human Settlements Tertuis Simmers will on Tuesday, 17 December 2019 visit and officially hand over a house to Vuyokasi  Nguqu (35).

Nguqu, who suffers from Growth Hormone Deficiency, met President Ramaphosa at a Women’s Day event in Paarl where she made a few requests to the President, one of them being decent shelter. President Ramaphosa instructed the Department of Human Settlements to provide Nququ with a decent house. The house has been built and Nguqu moved into her house at Forest Village housing project last month.

Forest Village is one of the Western Cape Department’s Catalytic Projects, which commenced in January 2016 and has a budget allocation of R1,1 billion. This mixed-use development consists of various types of units to cater for beneficiaries of different income levels and specific needs such as rental units, Military Veterans, Breaking New Ground (BNG) and Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP) units.

Upon completion in December 2022, it is expected to yield in excess of 5 000 housing opportunities for the people of the Western Cape.
