Minister Simmers serves clients at Human Settlements helpdesk

Today, Western Cape Human Settlements Minister, Tertuis Simmers, lent a helping hand, when he assisted various clients at the Department’s Help Desk.

Minister Simmers said: “The Help Desk continues to lead the way in addressing a variety of housing queries. I commend the staff for their enthusiasm, commitment, patience, empathy and all-round professionalism as they interacted with our clients. It was a real pleasure to be allowed in their space, as I was reminded of the vital role our help desk has to play in assisting and enabling residents to gain access to housing information.”

The Department’s Help Desk, which is located on the ground floor at its offices in Wale Street, Cape Town, serves as a walk-in centre for residents with any government housing-related queries.

Whether one needs assistance regarding status on the database, subsidy applications, enquiries regarding projects, advice or guidance regarding options available, the Help Desk assists to address all information needs. In addition to walk-in clients, the Help Desk team also attends to written, emailed and telephone queries.

Between June and July this year, the Help Desk received, attended to and/or resolved a total of 5 064 queries. The month of July alone, had 2 874 queries, while on average, during last year, a total of 26 000 queries were attended to.

Ravensmead resident, 64-year old Angeline Steyn, who enquired about her title deed, said: “I’m really happy to meet Minister today. The information he gave me is clear and helpful. I’m looking forward to receiving my title deed.”
