On Friday, 28 October 2016, the Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Mr Bonginkosi Madikizela, together with Knysna Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Eleanore Bouw-Spies, will hand over houses to three elderly residents in the Dam-se-Bos South Project.
The three recipients, including one with special needs, will be the first to receive houses in the Dam-se-Bos South Project. The development is one of government’s Upgrade of Informal Settlement Project (UISP) initiatives and will consist of 165 serviced sites and 165 houses, spread across the Dam-se-Bos, Concordia, Nekkies East and Oupad areas in Knysna.) Of the 165 houses, sixteen will be completed in Dam-se-Bos with the first three completed houses being handed over this Friday. A further 13 homes are near completion.
The residents will each receive a 40 square metre house with an open plan kitchen, two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a yard. Residents were temporarily moved in order for the construction of the homes to be completed.
This handing over ceremony stems from a commitment made by Minister Madikizela who met with a group of elderly residents last year. The beneficiary allocation also reflects the Department’s strategic focus to prioritise the elderly and those with special needs in the allocation of housing opportunities.
All media are invited to attend.
