Senior Citizens to Receive Houses in Kayamnandi, Stellenbosch, Western Cape

Western Cape Minister of Human Settlements, Bonginkosi Madikizela and Stellenbosch Mayor Conrad Sidego , will on Tuesday 19 July 2016 conduct an official housing handover ceremony to the beneficiaries of The Watergang Phase 2 Housing Project in Khayamnandi, Stellenbosch. Included among the beneficiaries will be 76 year old Mrs Frances Mgodeni and 77 year old Mrs Gladys Ntloni.

The beneficiary allocation reflects the Department’s strategic focus to prioritize the elderly and those with special needs in the allocation of housing opportunities.  With over 500 000 households in the Western Cape requiring housing assistance, and with a budget allocated from the National Human Settlements Department that can provide around 20 000 housing opportunities per year, it’s essential that the available housing opportunities are prioritized for the most vulnerable.

The project it is an Upgrading of Informal Settlement Project (UISP). Construction started in May 2015 and is expected be completed by the end of July 2016. The project consists of 193 sites and 193 houses at a budget of R32.2 million. To date, 69 houses have already been handed over and R25.2 million of the budget spent.
