13 energy efficient houses will be handed over to beneficiaries of the Delft 3 and 5 housing project in Delft today, ensuring they will stay warm in winter without having to incur much heating costs.
The project, when complete, will deliver 1951 units of which more than 820 have already been handed over. The houses are constructed using new Alternative Building Technology (ABT) materials, which have many thermal qualities superior to conventional brick and mortar houses.
The use of ABTs refers to any form of home construction which utilises sub-structure, super-structure, roof assembly and/or building systems which are not fully covered by existing SANS 10400 building standards, specifications or codes of practice, and which are not referred to in the National Building Regulations. The use of ABTs will help ensure that people stay warmer in winter, experience less damp in their houses, and have reduced energy costs.
The following performance requirements are generally better using ABTs.
