Human Settlements Radio Campaign

14 May 2015

Saving the Day!

The Department is running a radio campaign until 2 June 2015 that highlights some of the safety benefits of the Upgrading of Informal Settlements Program, and also calls for communities to care for the services provided.

Interviews with Minister Madikizela

Minister Madikizela will also be on Umhlobo Wenene Radio from 8:00 to 8:30 on

  • Wednesday 20 May and
  • Tuesday 2 June.

He will talk about the Departments strategy, Access to Basic Services, Upgrading of Informal Settlements, beneficiary allocation, title deeds and more.

Radio Commercials

The radio campaign is based around a script called “Saving the Day” which reads as follows:

“SAVING THE DAY” - 35”

Special Effects: Sirens of fire trucks coming past quickly, people shouting.

Girl: Look Grandma; there’s a fire down the road. Let’s go see!

Old lady: No Thandi, it’s safer to stay out of the way. You know, a few months ago, a fire would burn down the whole informal settlement. But now with the new roads and the water pipes, fire trucks can get to fires fast and save lots of homes.

Announcer: Informal settlements are now safer than ever because roads and water are being provided through the Upgrading of Informal Settlements Program. So make the most of these services, and remember to look after them. The Western Cape Government. Better together.

The Upgrading of Informal Settlements commercials are planned to run live on the following stations:

  • Bush Radio – 89.5 FM
  • Radio Zibonele – 98.2 FM
  • Eden FM - 93.8 FM
  • Gamka FM – 87.6 FM
  • KC Radio – 107.7 FM
  • Namaqualand FM – 93.4 FM
  • Overberg – 98.4 FM
  • Valley FM – 88.8 FM
