Cederberg Backyarders and Farmworkers to Receive Homes

9 October 2013

Four of the final beneficiaries, including 54-year-old Mrs Estelle Engelbrecht,  will receive the keys to their houses in the 407 unit, R38.7 million Graafwater Housing Project in Cederberg Municipality, Western Cape, tomorrow.

The keys will be handed over by the Provincial Minister of Human Settlements in the Western Cape, Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela.

The majority of the beneficiaries for the project are residents of the town of Graafwater, who are either full-time or part-time farm workers, and due to a shortfall of affordable housing for lower income households, renting living space in the backyards of existing home owners. The beneficiaries have been on the Cederberg Municipality housing list for many years.

The department is focused on the provision of housing for all residents of the Western Cape, including those often overlooked, such as backyarders, and ensuring that the people who most need houses, receive them.

All media are invited.
