Minister Fritz Calls for Business to Partner with WC DSD

28 February 2019

Today, the Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz, awarded 14 handymen and drivers, from the Department’s facilities, for completing the Handyman Training provided by the Department’s service provider, Afroteq.

Minister Fritz is calling on private companies to partner with the Western Cape Department of Social Development to uplift and upskill the people of our Province.

The fourteen officials who attended the training were divided into groups between 10 and 21 September 2018.

This programme focused on key trade skills expected from a Handyman and prepared them to deliver professional maintenance service that is client focused.

The focus was on general, civil, construction and electrical maintenance and included a “mentor” pack of activities to be performed in the workplace. The candidates were also required to complete portfolios of evidence.

Minister Fritz said, “I was proud to award the following upstanding individuals today, Mr S Hadabe, Ms NN Mthembu, Mr  A Van Wyk, Mr DL Arries, Mr A Adriaan, Mr A Arnolds, Mr H Hartzenberg, Mr E Naude, Mr V Hendricks, Mr CB Eksteen, Mr LE Pullen, Mr CB Viljoen, Mr S Hanabe, Mr A Kinnear and Mr J Malaya.”

Minister Fritz further said, “These graduates demonstrated that life truly is a journey of personal development. We do not stop learning. This is why I am calling on the private sector to come forward and partner with the Western Cape Department of Social Development.  Only through a joint commitment between the private, civil and public sector can we ensure the upliftment and empowerment of all in our society.”

Under the leadership of Minister Fritz, the Department of Social Development will continue to upskill and uplift those most vulnerable in our society.
