9 April 2018

The Youth Entrepreneurship Workshop was officially launched today in Robertson by Western Cape Social Development MEC, Albert Fritz.

The MEC was joined by Langeberg Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Cllr. Henry Jansen, as well as Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, Hon. Matlodi Maseko.

Over 30 young people (aged between 16 – 35 year old) from Robertson and surrounding rural communities will spend the next week undergoing an intensive training and development workshop.

These young people are currently not in education, employment or training (NEETs), and the Expo will focus on developing hard and soft skills in business development, entrepreneurship and leadership.

The Department has set aside of R17.7-million for youth development this financial year. As per our Provincial Youth Development Strategy, this budget will focus on expanding services such as the 8 provincial Youth Cafés across the province, and providing training and empowerment initiatives such as the Expo.

The Workshop will also give the young participants an opportunity to showcase their business ideas and plans to established medium to large businesses in Robertson, for potential funding or partnership development.

This initiative is in line with the department’s efforts to build a generation of confident and self-reliant youth. The Department will continue to expand services for the youth.
