MEDIA ALERT: 2017 Youth Month: final week planner

The Western Cape Department of Social Development will conclude Youth Month commemorations next week with a series of events celebrating young people.

The Department has focused this year’s celebrations on not only giving young people avenues to express themselves, such as through the launch of the Express Yourself Youth Canvas, but also on the delivery of opportunity and services to young people through the launch of the Mitchells Plain Youth Cafe.

The Department will continue in this vein during the last week of Youth Month. The media are invited to the following events;

Zumba Youth Fitness Expo event in Elsies River

Tomorrow, the Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz will be joined by Minister of Health, Nomafrench Mbombo, in hosting a Zumba fitness class with 60 youth from our various youth programmes, such as Youth Cafes, EPWP and internships.

Youth Cultural Expression Evening

Minister Albert Fritz will host an evening of fun and entertainment, as 100 young people from across the province meet to display their talents in art, music, dance and theatre. A major theme this youth Month has been to give young people spaces to express themselves.

Venue: SPH Banqueting Hall, University of the Western Cape, Bellville

Bredasdorp Youth Engagement

The Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz will host 80 young people from Bredasdorp and surrounding rural communities for an engagement session. The major purpose will be to discuss the issues faced by young people in the area, and to workshop the services they want to see the Department develop in the area, including the possibility of a new Youth Café.

Groot Brak River (Mossel Bay) Youth Café launch

The Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz will launch the new and innovative R6.5-million Youth Café in Groot Brak River, near Mossel Bay. This state of the art Youth Café was borne out of a partnership between PetroSA and the Mossel Bay Municipality.
