The Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD) has officially entered into an agreement with the Saldanha Bay Municipality to provide coordinated social services in Saldanha Bay and surrounding areas.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on Monday between MEC, Adv. Albert Fritz, and Executive Mayor, Cllr. Marius Koen.

This memorandum frees DSD to collaborate directly with the Municipality, and deliver greater impact with our budget of R142.4-million which we spend in the greater West Coast area.

The Department will implement expand on our programmes, and render services to:

  • Families and children (including child protection and Early Childhood Development and HIV/AIDS)
  • Persons with disabilities and older persons
  • People abusing harmful substances
  • Children in conflict with the law
  • Poverty reduction
  • Development of youth

Our relationship will focus on responding to the most vulnerable segments of society in the Saldanha Bay and surrounding areas, such as children, people with disabilities and older persons.

The MEC and Mayor were joined by the DSD Regional Director, Dr. Lynette Russouw, and the Saldanha Bay Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Eventhia Vaughan.
