The Western Cape Minister for Social Development, Adv. Albert Fritz, today began the first leg of the week-long Ministerial Youth Outreach Programme in the Eden Region.
The outreach will based in the towns of Mossel Bay and George, and will see 100 young people from surrounding towns, including rural areas, meet to discuss the challenges they face, and workshop the type of interventions they believe are needed to address them. The youth are from the towns of;
The sessions held with these young people will culminate in their selection onto the 2016 intake of the Youth Skills Transfer Programme (YSTP), which will provide training in business skills and entrepreneurship.
The YSTP is another successful initiative of the Ministry of Social Development. The previous class of 2015 saw 363 young people from across the province graduate after having completed training and workshops offered in 2 blocks of 5 days each. In addition, and in the build-up to Mandela Day, Minister Fritz will this week also visit an ECD centre in Thembalethu, and disability home in Uniondale which caters for young people living with disability.
The Western Cape Department of Social Development, guided by the Provincial Youth Development Strategy, has placed great emphasis on the development and empowerment of young people. Through extending opportunities, we can change the lives of youth not in employment, education or training.
