Let us Exercise Together in Public Spaces

5 April 2013

Physical activity should be more accessible and appealing to a wide range of people in the Cape Town community. The Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town are joining hands to encourage members of the public to adopt healthy lifestyles by participating in public aerobics sessions in the Company’s Garden.

This Friday morning initiative, hosted by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, kicked off on 15 March and will run until 26 April 2013. The aim of this initiative is to promote a physically fit Cape Town; the impact of which will eventually be felt across the Western Cape.

The session held on Friday, 5 April 2013, created a lot of excitement. Ms Matricia Moses of the Department of Health, who attended her first session this year, was delighted. “As a person who exercises on a regular basis, I think this is a fantastic initiative. It really made me feel good and I will definitely encourage my colleagues and friends to join in the fun”, she said.

Ms Olivia Carolisen of the Provincial Gymnasium says the plan is to encourage people of all ages in every part of the province to engage in physical activities and sport as an integral part of their lives.

The most enthusiastic participants at a session receive a prize. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the 30-minute aerobics workout in the Company’s Garden in front of Iziko Museum at 8:30 on Friday, 12 April 2013.
