Heritage Western Cape Celebrates 10th Anniversary

29 October 2012

Speakers at the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Heritage Western Cape (HWC) shared their stories of success and struggle at Rust and Vreugd on 25 October 2012.

Pre-current council members who have been associated with HWC since its inception took enormous pride in the progress that the organisation has made. This has been the result of building good relationships with various heritage-related bodies and attentively responding to community enquiries.

Dr Janette Deacon, who became the first HWC chairperson in 2002, expressed her sincere appreciation for ten years of unwavering support from the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.

Unveiling an HWC plaque at Rust en Vreugd, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Dr Ivan Meyer encouraged people to “work in partnership to make heritage assets work”. He welcomed Dr Ronee Robinson as incoming HWC Chairperson.

Mr Andrew Hall, Director of Museum, Heritage and Geographical Names Services, spoke about the deep contribution that HWC and a number of notable individuals have made; efforts which are continuing to bear fruit in the heritage field in the Western Cape.
