Media Alert: Western Cape Government to Hold Freedom Day Celebrations at George, in the Southern Cape

The Western Cape government has selected the town of George in the Southern Cape for provincial Freedom Day celebrations. This colourful and yet dignified event fitting for the day will take place at Rosemoore stadium in George on Wednesday, 27 April 2005. The media are all invited.

Speakers will include the Defence Minister, Mosioua Lekota, Correctional Services Minister Ngconde Balfour, Premier Ebrahim Rasool and MEC Chris Stali. In line with the national theme "Celebrating diversity in culture for national unity and reconciliation" the programme will showcase different cultures from the Khoisan, Griqua, Afrikaners and Xhosa.

The award winning national artist and TV presenter, Zola tops the bill along with the Brasse vannie Kaap and a host of local artists have been lined up to keep the crowd entertained. The officials of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport have been working around the clock over the past few days to mobilize people for probably the first biggest provincial government event in this region since the dawn of democracy in South Africa.
