Minister Sakkie Jenner to Visit Initiation Site in Langa

The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation, Mr. Sakkie Jenner will tomorrow Thursday 12 August 2010 be visiting the amaXhosa initiation site, in Langa.

Minister Jenner's visit is part of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport's oversight of initiation schools within the province.

According to Minister Jenner, 'initiation is an important right of passage to ensure responsible adults, therefore we need to make sure that it is protected and preserved, yet safe for the initiates within the Western Cape, at all times.'

'The Western Cape has the safest record in terms of initiation related incident and deaths, with no injuries or fatalities reported during the past season, 'Jenner adds.

Date: 12 August 2010
Venue: Langa Initiation Site

Directions to the site: Take the N2 from Cape Town past the Athlone Cooling Towers and turn left into Bhunga Ave. Turn left at the circle and immediately left and continue to the site which is straight ahead.
