Minister Marais mourns the loss of champion for language and human rights

The passing of Danny Titus, former CEO of the ATKV and part-time commissioner of the SA Human Rights Commission, has left our country poorer in many aspects, as he was a true champion in promoting language, as well as his important work as part of the HRC.

Minister Anroux Marais said, “Danny’s work as lawyer, linguist and historian contributed immensely to the healing of South Africa after apartheid, and paved the way to open narratives on bridging the gaps created by the apartheid system and moving to a space of inclusivity for all cultures and languages. He was a true inspiration and laid a foundation for a society which embraced all South Africans and gave them the freedom to celebrate their culture.”

With Heritage Day coming up this week, it is especially poignant to consider the important contribution that Danny Titus made to bringing unity in our country. His voice will continue to ring out loudly in the pages of history for many years to come.
