First of its kind online National Book Week to be launched on Monday

4 September 2020

National Book Week, the Western Cape Library Service's second longest running reading awareness week, is heading online this year.

The Library Service is celebrating National Book Week next week from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 September 2020 in partnership with the South African National Book Development Council (SANBDC). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown regulations, we are not able to launch a physical event as we normally would, but we are so fortunate to bring the National Book Week event in a digital format.

Minister Marais will be participating in the 2020 digital National Book Week campaign as we actively raise awareness on reading and books; to promote and encourage reading; to increase access to books and to increase social media awareness to all those who call the Western Cape home.

We are particularly excited about the projects and programmes to follow: inclusive of the national poster designed by the SANBDC with the theme: Books Beyond Words to be presented to all public libraries in the Western Cape, multiple online activity books, which include our very own My Bhuki Book in Afrikaans and English and our Be a Star Activity book for children, instant newsflashes as well as online programmes that will include storytelling, word games, motivational talks, Wordathon and reading stories on mobile devices.

For more information on this online event, kindly visit the National Book Week website.
