6 October 2011

On Saturday, 8 October 2011, Dr Ivan Meyer, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport in the Western Cape, will hand over sport equipment to the Delft Street Soccer Association as part of the Provincial Gang Prevention and Intervention Programme.

One of the projects that the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport is involved in is the establishment of a Delft Street Soccer Association. The aim is to give as many young boys and girls access to sport and, more importantly, to prevent them from participating in crime and gangsterism.

The Provincial Gang Prevention and Intervention Programme is an integrated strategy, which combines the collective efforts of the social and economic cluster of government departments, together with communities and civil society, to collectively address gangsterism and substance abuse.

A total of 34 clubs will receive equipment from the department.
