Minister Anroux Marais to promote sport participation in the Karoo

27 September 2019

This weekend Minister Anroux Marais will promote sporting participation at major events in the Karoo district.

Tomorrow, 28 September 2019, Minister Marais will officially shoot off the 2019 Laingsburg Karoo Ultra Marathon. Renowned as challenging, hilly and naturally unspoilt, the route follows the N1 to Matjiesfontein and then on to Dwars-in-die Weg .

To promote participation in safe sporting activities in Laingsburg, there are different distance options for participants to choose from:  5km fun run, 12km, 21.1km and the 80km marathon. Sports and recreational events like these in the Karoo this weekend, have a positive impact on the local economy, health, and help to advance safety in communities.

On Sunday, 29 September 2019, Minister Marais will officially shoot off the 2019 Timbercity Cycle Tour in Oudtshoorn. The 9th Edition of the Timbercity Cycle Tour hosted by Eden Cycling Association will once again be a seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour taking place in 2020. This gives riders from surrounding areas an opportunity to improve their seeding without traveling to the metropoles to do so.
