Promoting sport in the Central Karoo

30 April 2019

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) showed its commitment to developing sport and recreation within the Central Karoo region by handing over R200 000 to sport federations on 29 April 2019 at the Sydwill Williams Centrum in Prince Albert.

Prince Albert Mayor, Goliath Lottering, welcomed the attendees and thanked DCAS for their support of sport development in the region.

Sport and Recreation Chief Director for DCAS, Dr Lyndon Bouah, encouraged the region’s sport federations to apply for funding to develop sport and recreation in the area and increase citizen participation.

Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, delivered the keynote address at the handover and presented the ceremonial cheques to the federations. She also thanked the federations for their support and efforts in the development of sport and for their contribution to transformation within sport.

The sporting organisations that benefitted are Central Karoo Netball and Central Karoo Tennis. This handover was the last in the 2019 series of cheque handovers.

DCAS aims to provide Western Cape residents with quality sports facilities and works to encourage participation in sport. BETTER TOGETHER.
