Minister Meyer Visits Prestwich Memorial

4 June 2012

A unique cultural warmth was experienced when the Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Ivan Meyer, visited the Prestwich Memorial Centre in Cape Town on Tuesday, 5 June 2012.

This centre is dedicated to the memory of slaves and marginalised people - those 18th and 19th century inhabitants who made a huge contribution to the province and whose remains are interred on this site. Various photographs of these burial artifacts were on display at the centre when the minister was exposed to this prehistoric experience. He emphasised the department's contribution to cultural tourism and social inclusion in the Western Cape.

It was an emotional experience for many of those who accompanied the minister on his tour and he thanked Dave Brayant, Ward 77 Councillor, as well as those who have made his experience "cultural warming".

This is a perfect example of the good transversal management between the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government, and Minister Meyer said it's very important to work together.
