The past weekend saw approximately 200 athletes from across the Western Cape gathered at the Western Cape Sports School in Kuils River to stake their place in Team Western Cape for the forthcoming national Indigenous Games.
Enthusiastic athletes were put through gruelling sets of trails and by the end of the weekend a proud team was selected to represent the Western Cape in Morabaraba, Koko, Drie stokkies, Diketo, Dibeke, Jukskei, Intonga, Ncuva and Kgati.
Jody Urion of the DCAS Sport Recreation Programmes said: “We are very happy with the performance of our athletes and we look forward to the training camp in August to get them ready to compete on a national level”.
The National Indigenous Games will take place from 23 to 29 September 2017 in Limpopo.
DCAS encourages youth to take part in indigenous games in their communities. Let us unite and grow our young sporting talent BETTER TOGETHER.
