Commuters Encouraged to Rally behind SA Olympic Team

25 July 2012

On Friday, 27 July 2012, early morning commuters are encouraged to wear South African colours, sing the national anthem, fly the SA flag and support the South African Olympic team on the eve of the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. Dr Ivan Meyer, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, will host the final Magnificent Friday event.

The Western Cape has a total of 36 athletes, six officials and one physiotherapist representing ten different codes in the 125-strong SA Olympic Team.

The Magnificent Friday campaign is aimed at rallying South Africans behind the Western Cape representatives in the Olympic Team and the entire national team.

The minister will be joined by Western Cape sport administrators and former SA Sports Champions.
