7 April 2017

The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport handed over R1 100 000 in funding to various Cape Winelands Sport federations on 6 April 2017. The event was hosted by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) and took place at the Worcester Town Hall.

A total of 26 federations received funding from DCAS as part of their commitment to developing sporting talent within the Western Cape.

Breede Valley Municipality Mayor Antoinette Steyn, welcomed the federation representatives and DCAS staff to the handover.

Dr Lyndon Bouah said that DCAS is looking forward to working with the various federations during this year. ”We know that these funds will go a long way to help you build your federations. We value the partnership that we have with all the federations as well as the district,“ said Dr Bouah.

Minister Anroux Marais said the department is delighted to be handing over the funds to the Cape Winelands District. ”This allocation will undoubtedly promote sport and contribute to the reconciliation and development of Western Cape communities,” said Minister Marais.

The next handovers will take place in the West Coast and Metro.

DCAS provides support through funding to sporting federations across the province. Communities should support their local sports teams and encourage participation and growth. Let us grow our sporting talent BETTER TOGETHER.
