Tomorrow, 3 February 2017, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais and the Executive Mayor of the Mossel Bay municipality, Harry Levendal will officially celebrate the 28th anniversary of the Bartolomeu Dias Museum.
The museum was opened on 3 February 1989 as a culmination of the 1988 Dias Festival, which was held to commemorate 500 years after Bartolomeu Dias’ landing in Mossel Bay in 1488. The Portugese government also donated the life-sized replica of the ship that was used by Dias and his crew members, which is still housed in the Maritime Museum.
The celebration will include the ceremonial cutting of the cake as well as local entertainment.
