Tomorrow, 20 January 2017, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais will attend the Happy Chinese New Year Festival celebration at the V&A Waterfront.
With the growing number of Chinese students, visitors and businesses in Cape Town and the expanding of the relationship between South Africa and China, there is a growing need to showcase the cultural activities of the two countries. Celebrating the Chinese New Year in Cape Town is one platform used to promote the international cultural, educational and artistic cooperation between China and South Africa.
The annual festival creates a space in which locals gain insight into Chinese culture. This year’s attached programme will include a focus on calligraphy, the handing over of ties/red scarfs and exploring Chinese Cartoon movies, amongst other topics.
The programme for the day is available online.
