Great fun at West Coast Olympic Roadshow in Doringbaai

31 August 2016

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) continued with its Olympic Roadshow across the province in August, most recently in the West Coast town of Doringbaai on Thursday 25 August 2016. The proceedings were attended by approximately 55 children from the Doringbaai Primary School and were part of the build-up to the main event, ‘Olympic Day’, that will take place in the Cape Winelands District later in the year.

The programme consisted of Olympic and Paralympic education as well as fun activities including football, rugby, softball and netball. During the education sessions the history and origin thereof was emphasised to the children. Deputy Director of Sport Promotion Bennett Bailey explained Olympism and the purpose of the Roadshow throughout the Western Cape.

The Olympic Torch will now make its way to the Central Karoo where it will continue to spread the message of Olympism. Let us continue to encourage our youth to take part in sport, to build a healthier and stronger Western Cape, BETTER TOGETHER.
