Minister Marais Officially Opens Hangberg Public Library

4 March 2016

On Thursday 3 March 2016 the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, officially opened the Hangberg Public Library.

Known for its focus on community outreach programmes, upgrades have recently been done at the Hangberg Library. The upgrades include repairs, maintenance and refurbishments, as well as improved disabled access. The community regularly uses this library to read, for literacy and access to information, benefitting its visitors personally.

Speaking at the official opening, Minister Marais said: “This upgrade indeed contributes to our vision of a socially inclusive, creative, active and connected Western Cape. I am especially pleased with the easy access for people living with disabilities as it enables an open society for all. It creates a society in which all are afforded the opportunity to personally empower themselves and contribute to lifelong learning. It is conducive to cultural enrichment and economic development. All these and more are offered at libraries across the province, yet this library is a special one. Known to many for its community outreach focus, Hangberg Library has and will continue to be a beacon of hope to all who make use of it.”

We provide libraries as safe spaces of knowledge in communities. Communities should use these facilities to access opportunities. Let us create a successful, knowledgeable province BETTER TOGETHER.
