Cape Town Rugby Sevens Bringing the Heat to the Mother City

11 December 2015

On Wednesday 9 December 2015 the South African Sevens team, also known as the Blitzbokke, took time to interact with enthusiastic rugby fans at the V&A Waterfront. The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, also attended and wished the team well before the HSBC Cape Town Sevens Tournament taking place at the Cape Town Stadium from 12 – 13 December 2015.

It is the very first time that an international tournament of this calibre is held in Cape Town. Minister Marais extended a heartfelt welcome to the teams from Fiji, England, the United States of America, New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Argentina, France, Scotland, Kenya, Wales, Canada, Japan, Russia and Portugal. Sold out on both days, seating 55 000 spectators each day, the World Rugby Series will undoubtedly be a sporting highlight of 2015 for the Western Cape as a whole.

Minister Marais said: “We are extremely proud of the team. They have won the World Rugby Sevens Series in 2009 and they can do it again this year. I am rooting for our Blitzbokke and I am looking forward to the world class rugby action taking place this weekend.”
