Karoo Coaches at World Rugby Science Network

21 September 2015

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) arranged for a delegation of 12 rugby coaches from the Central Karoo Sport Academy to attend the Conference of the World Rugby Science Network. The two-day conference was hosted by the University of Cape Town and the Sport Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA) on 15 and 16 September 2015.

The World Rugby Science Network is a global network of researchers who are interested in the study of Rugby Football codes. Amongst the presenters were former Springbok captain and CEO of SSISA, Mr Morne Du Plessis, and nutrition specialist, Dr. Graeme Close, from the Liverpool John Moores University in the UK.

Mr Chris Kelly said: “We are grateful for this opportunity to attend the conference in Cape Town. I learnt a lot and I will definitely be taking this knowledge back to my club in Beaufort West. Thank you DCAS.”

Mr Eltano Haas stressed the value of the conference and said: “The conference is an eye opener to what the level of rugby is like in other parts of the country. I hope the 12 coaches will learn from the conference and assist with the improvement and development of Central Karoo.”

Through participating and supporting in sport networks, DCAS and its partners make an impact on the development of sport in the Western Cape BETTER TOGETHER.
