Minister Marais Inspires Youth at Regional Camps

24 August 2015

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) with the support of National Department of Sport and Recreation (SRSA) and LoveLife hosted the Cape Winelands and West Coast Regional Youth Camps in Villiersdorp and Riebeek West respectively from 21–23 August 2015. The events attracted young people from the Cape Winelands, Overberg and West Coast regions of the Western Cape.

Minister Anroux Marais attended both the Cape Winelands and West Coast Youth Camps on Saturday, 22 August 2015. She was in awe of the youngsters and their participation in the camp activities. “By attending this camp you are creating pathways for a very bright future. Remember to follow your dreams so that you can make a difference in your province and your country” said Minister Marais when she addressed youth at the Cape Winelands Camp.

The jam-packed camp programme included recreational and cultural activities as well as life skills discussions facilitated by LoveLife. The young people who attended had the chance to explore who they are, to develop their communication and leadership skills, and to experience the power of teamwork through physical activities. “I thoroughly enjoyed the camp. I learned a lot that I can implement in my own life” said Athenkosi Dimaza (18) from Mbekweni.

The Metro and Eden Regional Youth Camps will be taking place from 29–30 August 2015 in Riebeek West and Harkerville respectively. The most promising 300 participants will participate in the Western Cape provincial youth camp to take place later this year.

DCAS encourages youth to attend youth camps to gain leadership and life skills. We empower our youth and invest in the leaders of tomorrow BETTER TOGETHER.
