On Saturday, 22 August 2015, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais visited the Western Cape Youth Camps in the Cape Winelands and West Cost Districts.
The Youth Camps aim to open opportunities for networking, social inclusivity and the mass participation of youth to work better together to redress the challenges young people face on a daily basis. The Youth Camp programmes comprised of leadership, social inclusion and character building exercises, which embody the mission of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport. We encourage excellence and inclusivity in sport and culture through the effective, efficient and sustainable use of our resources, and through creative partnerships. In moving to excellence, we will create the conditions for access and mass participation, talent identification and skills development.
All other provinces are hosting only one provincial camp, while the Western Cape will be hosting 5, accommodating 75 youths each in:
Minister Marais was happy to have been a part of the Cape Winelands and West Coast Districts youth camps. “These camps will indeed assist the department to strengthen, in an organized and coordinated manner, the ability of youth to work better together across race, ethnicity, gender, geographical location, class, language and creed to redress the challenges with which they are faced”, she said.
