Media Alert: DCAS Congratulates Afrikaans Novel Winner Dan Sleigh

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) congratulates Dan Sleigh on his latest achievement. He is the winner of the 2015 Groot Afrikaanse Romanwedstryd (“Great Afrikaans Novel Competition”). Sleigh decisively beat all the other contenders with his sophisticated historical novel Die Laaste Goeie Man. 

He is a well-known historical writer who has made a valuable contribution to the history of our country. The continent of Africa is privileged to have someone like him; someone who can produce fascinating novels based on accurate historical research.

The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, said Sleigh's achievement should be acknowledged by all who have a passion for Afrikaans literature and the South African context.  ""Die Laaste Goeie Man’ required significant research into the history of the region and I have no doubt it will make a mark on all who read this book." said Minister Marais.
