DCAS announces Western Cape Sport Awards 2015 nominees

10 March 2015

On Tuesday, 10 March 2015, a media launch was held in Pinelands to announce the nominees in the 19 categories for the 19th annual Western Cape Sport Awards.

This event is one of the prestigious events on the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport’s (DCAS) calendar for 2015, where DCAS recognizes the many exceptional sportspeople in our province and award their outstanding achievements in a variety of sports categories. The awards will take place on Friday, 13 March 2015 at Rhebokskloof outside Paarl.

This year Nedbank and Old Mutual partnered with DCAS and provided financial sponsorships. Supersport joined the team and will broadcast the highlights on Sunday, 15 March 2015.

Helene Afrika, Provincial Manager at Old Mutual, spoke on behalf of Old Mutual and Nedbank. “We understand the commitment and resolve that go into long-term planning and we view these sponsorships as a great opportunity to partner with customers and communities to Do Great Things,” she said. “As the late Nelson Mandela said ‘Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair.’”

The winners of these provincial awards will also have the opportunity to be nominated for the National Sport Awards, which are awarded later in the year.
