Media Alert: Regional Sport Awards Celebrate Athletes

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) will be hosting 5 regional sport awards in November 2014 across the Western Cape.

These awards are held annually to acknowledge provincial athletes and to honour their achievements. The winners of the regional awards will be nominated for the Provincial sport awards, which will be held in March 2015. The Provincial winners are also nominated for the National sport awards.

Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, emphasised the importance of giving recognition to athletes. “The sport awards are an opportunity to celebrate our province’s sporting talent. We are proud of what our athletes have achieved. We also want our young aspiring athletes to look towards these athletes as role-models.” she said.

The regional sport awards will be taking place as follows:

7 November: Eden ( George Civic Centre)

14 November: West Coast (Club Mykonos)

14 November: Overberg (Caledon Casino)

20 November: Cape Winelands (Rhebokskloof)

28 November: Metro (Lord Charles Hotel)
