Nine Days until Cultural Affairs Awards Nominations Close

15 October 2014

Media Statement by Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport is pleased that local communities in the Western Cape have nominated individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution in the arts and culture sphere for the Cultural Affairs Awards.

With nine days to go before the closing date, I urge more people to take this opportunity and nominate their local heroes.

The awards are held annually to celebrate individuals and organisations in the Western Cape who are making a positive contribution in the Cultural Affairs sector.  Awards have previously been given to organisations and individuals who have made a profound impact within the arts, culture, language, heritage, museums, archives, geographical names and libraries sectors in the province over the years.

Nominations for the awards remain open until the 24th of October 2014.

Members of the public who wish to nominate an individual or an organisation for an award, can obtain nomination forms via the department’s website at www.westerncape.gov.za/cas.

The Cultural Affairs Awards ceremony will take place in February 2015.

The Cultural Affairs Awards remain an important occasion in our calendar, because they are an opportunity to get communities involved in the arts and cultural activities. Importantly, they promote excellence by celebrating those who make this province the vibrant hub of creativity that it is.
