Team Western Cape Arrives Back from Weifang Cup

6 August 2014

Team Western Cape safely arrived at Cape Town International Airport yesterday, after participating in the Weifang Cup in Shandong.

The relationship between the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sports (DCAS) and Shandong was strengthened, after team Western Cape's participation in the international event.

Team Western Cape player, Tauriq Dean, mentioned that the match against the National team from China was by far the most memorable. "We had to fight against the weather conditions as well as against the players, to get the best results”, he said.

Considering their results during the tournament, we asked Adrian Jafhta what they could do differently next time. "We could start preparing and training earlier, so that we don't only perform well as players but also as a team", said Adrian. The Shandong experience helped with the development of the players and preparing them for the next level in football.

Dean Kowalski spoke about his experience in China: "It was a great opportunity. We made friends with most of the teams and everyone would spend their nights in our hotel rooms. We made long term friends both off and on the field. However, a momentous moment came when we walked through Time Square, singing our team song "Dlala" in unity, and people started taking pictures that made us feel like celebrities. I will never forget this experience. Thank you DCAS and everyone who contributed to this experience”.
