The cycling programme is a partnership between
Nedbank and the
Sports Trust, supported by the
Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS). About 140 learners from 12 schools and a development cycling club participated in this year’s Cycle Tour. The schools are Scottsville Secondary School, Phoenix Secondary School, Oval North Secondary School, Beacon Hill Secondary School, Tafelsig Secondary School, Matthew Goniwe Memorial High School, Bulumko Secondary School, Crystal Secondary School, Orchard Primary School, Van Cutsem Combined School, Diazville Secondary School, Steynville Secondary School and De Doorns Development Cycling Group.
Road Bike – Fastest Male
Winner: Wayne Avontuur (Oval North Secondary School) with a time of 3:17.
Runner-up: Eben Deerling (De Doorns Development Group) with a time of 3:26.
3rd place: Grant Holloway (Oval North Secondary School) with a time of 3:27.
They are also the top three bike winners for completing the Cycle Tour in less than 3 hours 30 minutes.
Road Bike – Fastest Female
Winner: Ronelle Marron (Beacon Hill Secondary School) with a time of 6:03.
Runner-up: Mtetandaba Atnathi (Bulumko Secondary School) with a time of 6:04.
3rd place: Michaela Appels (De Doorns Development Group) with a time of 6:22.
Mountain Bike winners:
Six learners will receive a new road bike for completing the Cycle Tour in less than 4 hours and 15 minutes:

Most improved riders:
Doris Mbedlashe from Matthew Goniwe Memorial High School: a 2:41 improvement in time taken to complete the race.
Laurien LeWaak from Oval North Secondary School: a 2:16 improvement in time taken to complete the race.
