A total of 100 beneficiaries from the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) have received the opportunity to undergo training in Arts and Culture Management on Community Level at the ABSA Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) in Oudtshoorn from 30 March to 4 April 2014.
The training is SETA (Skills Education Training Authority) accredited and will be facilitated by Artéma, the Institute for Arts Management and Development at the North-West University. The youth are currently working in the various cultural affairs sections at the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) as well as at community organisations.
Chief Director of DCAS Cultural Affairs Hannetjie Du Preez says the training is a valuable opportunity for the EPWP beneficiaries. “Through the training, we are investing in the development of future leaders, who will significantly contribute in arts, culture and heritage events in the province. This could potentially open many doors for them.”
EPWP worker Bukeka Sam (30), from Khayelitsha, who works at the DCAS Arts and Culture component, is looking forward to the training course. “This is an opportunity for me to empower myself and to enter the professional arts sector with confidence.”
The EPWP workers will receive a certificate at a ceremony on 4 April 2014 that will be attended by the Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Dr Ivan Meyer.
